If you’ve never had a Brazilian wax or sugar before, it’s completely normal to feel nervous. Almost everyone walks in with the same questions: Is it awkward? Does it hurt? How long does it last?
The short answer: it’s quick, very routine for us, and much less intimidating than people imagine- especially when you know what to expect ahead of time.
First Things First: What Is a Brazilian?
A Brazilian removes all or most hair from the front and back. You can go completely bare, or leave a small strip or triangle if you prefer.
At Beach Haven, Brazilians can be done with waxing or sugaring, and both are priced the same. All of our estheticians are trained in both methods, so we can guide you based on your skin and hair.
Is It Awkward?
This is usually the biggest fear, and I want to put your mind at ease! For clients, it feels vulnerable for about 30 seconds. For us, it’s just another service.
We do Brazilians all day, every day. We’ll guide you through positioning, keep things professional, and move efficiently. You don’t need to apologize for anything: hair growth, body type, or nervousness.
Waxing vs. Sugaring for Brazilians
Both methods remove hair from the root and give similar results. The difference comes down to skin sensitivity, heat tolerance, and hair type.
Waxing may be a good option if you:
-
Have very coarse hair
-
Tend to sweat easily
-
Have been waxing regularly with good results
-
Have a lot of fine or peach-fuzz hairs you want removed
Wax uses warmth and adheres to both hair and the top layer of skin, which some clients prefer because it grabs everything very cleanly.
Sugaring may be a good option if you:
-
Have very sensitive or reactive skin
-
Are heat-intolerant
-
Prefer a more natural product
-
Are prone to irritation or skin lifting
Sugaring is applied at a lower temperature and doesn’t stick to live skin cells, which many sensitive clients love.
If you’re unsure, we’ll help you decide, and if you book one and change your mind, that’s completely fine.
Does It Hurt?
Pain is subjective. Some people find waxing easier, some prefer sugaring. What matters more than the method is:
-
Hair length
-
How consistently you come
-
Timing (right before your period is usually more sensitive)
-
Your overall tolerance
The good news: the first appointment is usually the hardest. As hair grows back finer and more evenly, most clients notice each visit gets easier.
How Long Does It Take?
A Brazilian appointment is typically 15–20 minutes. We work efficiently while still being thorough. Sugaring and waxing take about the same amount of time at Beach Haven.
How Long Do Results Last?
Most clients stay smooth for 3–5 weeks. For best results, we usually recommend coming every 4–6 weeks. Consistency helps:
-
Reduce discomfort
-
Improve regrowth
-
Decrease ingrowns over time
How to Prep for Your Appointment
-
Hair should be about ¼ inch long (roughly the length of a grain of rice). This allows for the wax or sugar to grip the hair to remove it. It will hurt more if it's too short. Conversely, there's no need to trim if you think it's too long.
-
Avoid heavy lotions or oils the day of
-
Light exfoliation 24–48 hours before is helpful
-
Wear loose clothing afterward if possible
Aftercare Basics
After your appointment:
-
Avoid hot tubs, heavy sweating, and friction for 24 hours
-
Keep the area clean and dry
-
Begin gentle exfoliation after a few days
-
Use recommended products if you’re prone to ingrowns
Our Approach at Beach Haven
We don’t rush, judge, or force a method that doesn’t work for you. We look at your skin, your hair, your past experiences, and your comfort level, then make a recommendation that makes sense.
Sometimes that means waxing. Sometimes that means sugaring. Sometimes it means adjusting timing or aftercare. The goal is healthy skin and results you feel good about.
Still Nervous? That’s Okay.
If you’re unsure which option is best, or you’re feeling anxious about your first Brazilian, you’re not alone. We’ll talk you through it and make sure you feel comfortable before we start.
