Botox vs Dysport vs Daxxify: What's the Difference?

If you’ve started researching injectables, you’ve probably noticed there’s more than just “Botox” on the menu. Dysport and Daxxify are becoming increasingly popular, and you're probably wondering how they compare to Botox.

As a registered nurse injector, I’ve seen and tried them all, and there is no universal “best” option. The right neurotoxin depends on your facial anatomy, muscle strength, aesthetic goals, and even how your body metabolizes product.

What Do These Treatments All Do?

Botox, Dysport, Daxxify, Jeuveau, and Xeomin are all the same medication: Botulinum Toxin Type A. They are known as neuromodulators, also referred to as Botox, Neurotoxin, Wrinkle-Relaxers or "Toxin" at my practice. I know, lots of terms, but stay with me. They work by temporarily relaxing targeted facial muscles to soften wrinkles caused by repeated movement, like frown lines, forehead lines, and crow’s feet.

So why do you usually hear “Botox” used as a catch-all term? Think of Kleenex: many people refer to all tissues as “Kleenex,” even if they’re using Puffs. Botox is simply the most universally recognized name, so patients (and even some injectors) often use it when referring to any neurotoxin, regardless of the brand being injected.

While these medications are the same at their core and produce similar end results, there are subtle differences that may steer injectors toward one option over another.

The differences between them come down to things like:

  • How the medication spreads once injected

  • How quickly results appear

  • How long results may last

  • How your individual body responds

So… How Do You Choose?

Well, here’s the thing, you don’t choose alone, and you shouldn’t. You will work with a skilled injector who will evaluate:

  • Your facial anatomy and muscle movement

  • Your past experience (if any)

  • How expressive you are

  • Whether you want movement preserved or more restricted

  • Your lifestyle and maintenance preferences

...and a neurotoxin will be chosen based on the findings.

My Philosophy as an Injector

My goal is to create balanced, natural results that still look like you.

That means I choose the neurotoxin based on your anatomy, not what’s popular, heavily marketed, or trending online.

For some patients, that choice evolves over time. What works beautifully at one stage of life may not be the best fit years later, and that’s completely normal.

What I Primarily Choose to Inject at my Practice

While all neurotoxins are effective, I personally inject Dysport and Daxxify most often because I’ve seen consistently excellent results with them in my patient population.

Many of my patients prefer:

  • The way these products soften movement while maintaining expression

  • How long these products last

  • The overall aesthetic outcome over time

That said, this doesn’t mean they’re “better” across the board, it means they’ve proven to be the best tools for the faces personally treat and the results I aim to achieve.
